Bad night for the Cubs farm system tonight. Still, there’s always Tennessee.

    Iowa Cubs

The Iowa Cubs were knocked out of balance by the Albuquerque Isotopes, 13-3.

Austin Bibens-Dirkx started, pitched five innings and took the loss. He allowed five runs on six hits, including two home runs. He walked three and struck out one.

The whole bullpen stunk but special approbation is saved for Jeff Gray, who allowed five runs over 1.1 innings.

Right fielder Brad Snyder gave the I-Cubs a short-lived early lead with a solo home run in the top of the first. He now has 24 home runs this year. Snyder went 1 for 4.

The situation for Iowa is now very simple. They must win 3 of 4 against Memphis in Des Moines starting tomorrow to win the division and make the post-season.

    Tennessee Smokies

Tennessee clinched a while ago, but tonight they couldn’t hold a candle to the Jacksonville Suns, 6-2.

Starter Rafael Dolis pitched 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits. Dolis walked two and struck out four.

Center fielder Tony Campana went 1 for 3 with a walk and two more stolen bases. He scored once. Campana now has 46 steals this season.

    Daytona Cubs

The Daytona Cubs harpooned the Clearwater Threshers, 5-4.

Starter Nick Struck got his first Daytona win with 5.2 innings of work. Struck allowed three runs on five hits. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out five.

Jeff Beliveau came in the game with two out and two on and got a ground out to end the game and collect his second save.

DH Rebel Ridling hit a three-run homer in the third inning. Ridling has 13 home runs this season. He was 1 for 5.

Second baseman DJ LeMahieu hit his second home run of the season in a 3 for 5 night. LeMahieu home run was a two-run home run in the sixth inning.  LeMahieu also stole his 15th base of the season.

Right fielder Kyler Burke was 2 for 5 with a stolen base and a run scored.  Center fielder Jose Valdez was 3 for 4 with a stolen base.

    Peoria Chiefs

The Peoria Chiefs were prey for the Kane County Cougars, 5-3 in a game that ended because of rain after seven innings. The game officially eliminated Peoria from post-season consideration.

Marcus Hatley pitched the first two innings without allowing a run. Hatley gave up three hits. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out three.

Yohan Gonzalez pitched the final 1.2 innings and took the loss. He allowed three runs on four hits, including one home run. Gonzalez walked one and struck out one. One of the three runs was unearned.

Second baseman Logan Watkins hit his first home run of the season, a first inning solo home run. Watkins was 1 for 3.

    Boise Hawks

The Boise Hawks shut out the Spokane Indians, 1-0.

Brent Ebinger started and got the win, going five innings and allowing only two hits. He didn’t walk anyone and struck out eight.

Aaron Kurcz pitched the ninth and got his eighth save. Kurcz didn’t allow a hit, but did walk one and hit one batter. He struck out two.

Shortstop Arismendy Alcantara was 3 for 4 with an RBI. Second baseman Pin-Cheih Chen was 2 for 3.

I have always been a fan of Burke, I have to say, seeing news like this gives me mixed feelings. This might be shocking news for Burke fans, but some of you who will say that you saw it coming. I can’t say I’m all that surprised though. Burke is spectacular, I hope this doesn’t affect the rest of the team.

I can’t say I’m all that surprised though. Burke is spectacular, I hope this doesn’t affect the rest of the team.
